5 URGENT ACTIONS TO STOP DISABILITY CUTS! ⏳
The government is trying to rush through its dangerous cuts to disability benefits. There is growing and widespread opposition to these plans, which would see hundreds of thousands of disabled people pushed into poverty and further hardship.
The first major vote on the reforms is happening on Tuesday 1st July - so we need to take urgent action to lobby every MP to oppose these cruel and deadly cuts.
Here are 5 urgent actions you can take to ramp up the pressure 👇
📧 Email your MP 📧
Along with our friends at National Survivor User Network, we have created a simple guide including a template email that you can use to lobby your MP to vote against the disability cuts - click to read the guide and get your email sent!
📞 Phone your MP 📞
Whilst MPs get thousands of emails every week, they receive far fewer phone calls. This is an important chance for you to be heard as a constituent with views they need to listen to - you’re far more difficult to ignore on the phone. 🚪 Go to your MP’s office 🚪
This is one of the most powerful ways you can make your voice heard to your MP. If you live near to your MP’s office and/or are able to travel there, you can show up and register your concerns in person. Fridays are generally regarded as constituency days where many MPs will return to the area they represent and engage in local events. Not all MPs share information about where their office is based - so if you don’t know where it is, you might need to search online or ask around in your area. We have a useful guide for meeting your MP which could be handy if your MP happens to be at their office - check it out for some top tips.
📱 Tag your MP on social media 📱
It’s vital that MPs feel the pressure both publicly as well as in direct communication. So if you are on any of the social media platforms that your MP is on, you should tag them and lobby them there too! You can find out information about MPs’ social media accounts on the Parliament website. Here is a draft message you can use, but feel free to tweak:
“Hi @[MP handle] - ahead of the vote on disability cuts, as your constituent I urge you to oppose these dangerous plans that would plunge vulnerable people into poverty & hardship. Will you stand with your disabled constituents & vote against the cuts?”
