We believe that patients should have the right to decide how our health data is managed and used - but right now that right is under threat.
The previous Conservative government awarded a £330m contract to US spy tech company Palantir to run a health database they are calling the 'Federated Data Platform' (FDP). Palantir - a Trump-backed company with a track record in military technology, surveillance and human rights abuses - is a completely inappropriate partner for our NHS.
Yet rather than halting and rethinking these plans, the new Labour government has instead doubled down and FORCED NHS Trusts to commit to the rollout of the FDP. If it goes ahead as envisaged, the FDP will be the largest single point of access to NHS patient data this country has ever seen. Yet there are still so many unanswered questions about exactly how it will work.
Together with Foxglove and other partners, we have been demanding answers on the FDP, and we've also taken steps to initiate a legal challenge.
Our top 3 concerns:
1️⃣ There is no proper consent or safeguards on how our data will be used and protected
2️⃣ Palantir is a dangerous company that shouldn’t be anywhere near our NHS
3️⃣ The FDP will lock us into a corporate monopoly controlled data system
We already forced the government to back down on dodgy plans for a GP data grab in 2021. It's vital that they learn from these mistakes by respecting patients' choice and acting in the interests of health, not corporate profits. Join the campaign to help us hold them to account!
