As the crisis in our NHS rumbles on, our government continues to make all the wrong choices.
Rather than investing in our health service in order to bring down waiting times and improve patient care, the government is instead planning to spend £330m of public money on a health database they are calling the 'Federated Data Platform' (FDP).
If it goes ahead as envisaged, the FDP will be the largest single point of access to NHS patient data this country has ever seen. Yet the government has so far told us almost nothing about it.
Perhaps most worryingly, US spy tech company Palantir has been awarded the contract to run this platform, despite widespread concern from patients, doctors and privacy campaigners. Palantir is a completely inappropriate choice for our NHS.
Together with Foxglove and other partners, we have been demanding answers on the FDP, and we've also taken steps to initiate a legal challenge.
Our top 3 concerns:
1️⃣ No proper consent or safeguards on how our data will be used and protected
2️⃣ Hugely expensive over-reach that won’t help patients
3️⃣ Locks us into a corporate monopoly controlled data system
We already forced the government to back down on dodgy plans for a GP data grab in 2021. It's vital that they learn from these mistakes by respecting patients' choice and acting in the interests of health, not corporate profits. Join the campaign to help us hold them to account!
