Tania & Amy's story
20th July 2021
Today, Just Treatment launched a new campaign film with Tania El-Keria to oppose the government’s NHS Corporate Takeover Bill - officially called the “Health and Care Bill”.
In November 2012 Tania’s daughter, Amy, died in a privately run mental health hospital aged just 14. The facility was run by private healthcare company the Priory, which was found in court to have committed gross negligence and failures of care which led to Amy’s death.
Following her daughter’s passing, Tania has been fighting to stop NHS privatisation. She is really scared that private companies, like the one that failed Amy, will get more power to decide the future of the NHS and the care it provides to patients.
Tania El-Keria said: “The private sector is just about making money. Unfortunately, our vulnerable people are a bank balance to them. I want the private hospitals shut down completely, and it all go back to our NHS.”
If passed, the government’s NHS Bill would give private companies - like Virgin and Serco - a seat on NHS boards. It has passed its second reading in Parliament, but will return for further parliamentary stages after summer recess.
Just Treatment is fighting alongside many other organisations to stop the dangerous NHS Bill. You can support by signing our petition to stop this NHS corporate takeover bill here.
