Just Treatment’s hiring!!
Maryam Asaria joined Just Treatment as an Organiser in March - as we recruit for a new Digital Comms and Campaigns Lead she reflects on a busy first few months.
I joined Just Treatment days before the UK went into lockdown because of the pandemic. It was an intense time to start. My first day began by being asked whether I wanted to take my first day off in order to get prepared for lockdown.
What a time to start though - the NHS was all that everyone could talk about, and Just Treatment dropped all its plans and began organising around the pandemic. The long term strategy remains the same, but how we plan to get there has changed. It’s been incredible working as part of a small team, being at the forefront of developing Just Treatment’s strategy. Because it’s a small team, everyone is always supportive of trying new things.
Since the start of lockdown, we’ve managed to start organising for a New Deal for the NHS, with more than 300 volunteers already signed up to be part of the movement - helping us to reach out and listen to people in over 400 constituencies across the UK. The thought of what this could become is really exciting, and the amount that Just Treatment volunteers have already achieved is incredible.
I joined Just Treatment because I’ve always believed empowering individuals with first hand experience in order to challenge power hierarchies is the way to make real change. Many organisations will claim to be volunteer led - but at Just Treatment we take this claim very seriously.
My first 5 months here have been brilliant. I’ve learned so much, and I’ve seen the potential for our digital campaigns work to really accelerate our work. The digital role we’re recruiting for now has so much potential - so I’d really encourage anyone interested in being part of a patient led movement to create a stronger healthcare system for all to apply for the vacancy! Can’t wait for you to join the team.
